Shopping Spree

Photo of a 20-30 member helping a child buy new shoesActive 20-30 Sacramento #1 holds two shopping sprees a year: the Back to School Shopping Spree and the Holiday Shopping Spree. We take a busload of underpriveledged kids shopping, giving each child anywhere from $100 to $150 to spend. Each child is paired with a club member to help with the shopping, then everyone heads to the bowling alley for some post-shopping fun. These shopping sprees allow these kids to start the new school year or have a happy holiday with new clothes, new shoes, warm winter jackets, etc.

2007 Holiday Shopping Spree

HolidayShoppingSpree

Saturday, December 8th - The Active 20-30 Club Sacramento No.1 hosted over 80 children at the Club’s annual “Holiday Shopping Spree.” Each child received a $100 gift card donated by the Active 20-30 Club Sacramento No.1, to buy clothes at the Mervyn’s Department Store of Rancho Cordova (also providing great discounts on all items purchased with the donated gift cards during the Shopping Spree). The participating, “at-risk” children had the opportunity to also have their hair cut, a service donated courtesy of Studio 360 hair salon. Finally, Santa and other special guests were on site with presents in hand for each of the children attending. Following the Shopping Spree, the Active 20-30 Club members took the kids out to enjoy bowling and food.

2006 Holiday Shopping Spree

The 2006 Holiday Shopping Spree was held Saturday, December 9th, at the Mervyn’s in Rancho Cordova. We were able to take 90 kids shopping with $100 each to spend. Thanks to Mervyn’s, they were able to stretch their shopping money with no sales tax, and 15% discount on top of the existing 30-70% holiday sales prices. Each child was paired with a club member to help with the shopping, then everyone headed to the bowling alley for some post-shopping fun. These shopping sprees allow these kids to have a happy holiday with new clothes, new shoes, warm winter jackets, etc.

2004 Holiday Shopping Spree

Altogether we were able to shop for 108 kids, 83 of which also joined us for bowling afterward. This event could not have happened without the 114 volunteers that showed up to work the event, as well as the event sponsors. Everyone had a great time. Some liked visiting with Santa best, others enjoyed bowling the most, and everyone liked the shopping.
